Weddings in India is considered to be a sacred and sanctified ceremony.

The occasion of Mehndi ceremony is often one of the most important pre-wedding rituals especially for the bride. It is a fun filled ritual, which is celebrated mainly by the bride’s family.

Often hidden within the mehndi pattern the name or initials of the groom are applied.

There is also a common saying – “Darker the color of mehndi, more the husband’s love”

    Stunning image. Almost riveting, but also disturbing…as if the degree to which a bride is ‘decorated’ is inverse to her power and say in the marriage??

    Yes. I agree with you. In most countries when it comes to marriage, the girl doesn’t have much say. But times are changing. Hopefully the old way of marriages can be put to an end by educating the women, esp., in rural areas where education is limited.
